How To Volunteer

Below is a list of opportunities for individuals and organizations that are interested in supporting the Southern Nevada Prison Ministries team:


Volunteer Opportunities

Administrator - responsible for office administration functions of Southern Nevada Prison Ministries.  Reports to the SNVPM President or Vice President.

Case Manager – responsible for the inmates’ case management specific to administrative responsibilities (e.g., enrollment, mentor assignment, aftercare).  Reports to the SNVPM President or Vice President.

Community Manager – responsible for the identification of recruitment of local community churches to partner with in an effort to obtain resources needed to support SNVPM’s Mission, Goals, and Vision.  Reports to the SNVPM President or Vice President.

Aftercare Manager - responsible for the aftercare functions of SNVPM.

Clerical Assistant
Clerical assistants assist the Administrator and are responsible for providing clerical support and maintaining office systems for the SNVPM office.

Volunteer Assistant Chaplains
Volunteer Assistant Chaplains counsel inmates concerning their spiritual growth. Reports to the Institutional Chaplain on institutional matters and organizationally to the Community Manager. Volunteers may donate their time as can fit into the institutions program schedule.

Church Relations Coordinator
Coordinators assist and report to the Community Manager in identifying and recruiting local churches in an effort to obtain other resources needed to operate SNVPM. Resources include financial support, equipment, housing, jobs, advice and consultation, and the recruitment of additional volunteers.

Aftercare Coordinators
They coordinate release plans with the inmates and report to the Aftercare Manager.

Mentors
Mentors are key volunteers. Each inmate will be matched with a mentor. A wise and trusted counselor, teacher, friend, confidant, troubleshooter, advocate, and role model. The mentor commits to work with the inmate for at least 12 months. That commitment entails meeting a minimum of three hours a week. Mentors report to the Case Manager.

Life Skills Facilitators (Tutors)
Life Skills Facilitators provide encouragement and instruction to inmates working towards their GED certificates. Opportunities also exist for tutoring in computer related and Life Skills. Life Skills Facilitators tutor inmates in various areas of Life Skills to include resume writing, job assessment, personal finance, interviewing skills, etc.  Life Skills Facilitators report to the Program Manager.

Family Support Group Facilitators
Facilitators hold regular support groups for inmate's family members. The majority of inmates will be returning to their families. The families need to be prepared for the inmates' return.  Reports to the Aftercare Manager.
